Tackling Christmas by giving everyone the same thing - a truck tarp and a boat sail.

Buying 23 individual Christmas presents felt like a chore. Making the same gift 23 different ways felt like a problem worth having.

It started with two lies: a made-up friend with a boat, invented purely to buy a used sail off a guy named Jesse, and a truck that never existed, dreamed up to talk a bloke named Andrew out of his old tarp. Facebook Marketplace really is wild. From there, the real work was cutting the salvaged material into 23 distinct pieces. This trading the comfort of clean, straight material and a repeatable pattern for the mess already built into it: creases, mould, dust, holes worn in by years as cargo covering and sailing.

23 pieces went out before Christmas, each one carrying a different scar from its former life into its next.

Jesse, if you're somehow reading this, there is no boat (and no more sail).
