Respecting and refining an original artwork for the diverse needs of a school.

Adrian Brown, a First Nations artist, had already given the school its symbolism and story: eagle, cross, mountains and trees, all rich and specific. The problem was that an artwork isn't built to survive being stitched onto a blazer pocket, printed on a road sign, and scaled across a website, all at once.

The process was not as simple as just clicking a button and converting the artwork into linework. Refining it wasn't about redesigning the story, it was about rightfully translating it, taking the time to simplify without losing what was initially embedded in the artwork. Gradients gave way to flat colour, illustrative detail became confident linework, reworked from a large primary mark down to a small single-colour version that still holds its symbolic weight at a glance. Retaining that integrity whilst ensuring it serves the College’s needs was a constant balance within every design choice.

What shipped is a crest that behaves the same whether it's embroidered at 30mm or stretched across a façade, backed by a full system designed to grow with the campus through each new stage.

Respect turned out to be the harder brief.
